What was the mainstream music in the 50's and 60's?

Like, right now, it's Justin Bieber and Lady Gaga and what not. But what was mainstream in the 50's and 60's?

Answer on What was the mainstream music in the 50's and 60's?

In the early sixties a popular song was "Locomotion" by Little Eva.

In the mid sixties a popular song was "California Dreaming" by the Mama's and the Papas.

In the late sixties a popular song was "The Letter" by the Box Tops.

I'm just trying to show you how the style of music progressed; although I love all these songs :D

The sixties was where the best music was at! Along with the 70s! I'm not interested in the 50s very much so can't help you there.

Popular artists were: The Beatles, Led Zeppelin, Temptations, Supremes, Animals, Jefferson Airplane, The Ronettes, The Hollies, CCR, Vanilla Fudge, Elvis, The Doors, Marvin Gaye, Moody Blues, Jimi Hendix, Simon and Garfunkle and there's about a million more.

Music back then had soul unlike todays music.
