I am in Rome for my birthday, where should I spend my day?

I have a whole vacation in Italy and I am spending my birthday in Rome, what things should I do in Rome during the day that are interesting and/or exciting? Any good restaurants to suggest?

Do something that particularly interests you. It could be spending the day in the attractions related to ancient Rome, or visit the Vatican museums, take the train to the beach, spend the day in the park, or shop in the area around the Spanish Steps.
