I asked this question in another section earlier and just wasn't getting any really helpful answers so I decided to repost here. I am 24 and am expecting my first daughter in August (Lily Jacklyn) I am staying with my mom for a few days while my kitchen is being remodeled at home just because my hubby and I thought it would be safer for me. Anyway I have several dogs and I brought them with me of course. My oldest dog is a French Bulldog and he is 8 years old and has had a stomach condition since he was a puppy. He is on a very strict diet given to him by the vet that he has to adhere to in order to keep his condition under control. He can't eat pork or beef, basically no red meat, basically just poultry, rice, some veggies and fruits and plain yogurt. If he eats anything that's not on his diet then he starts projectile vomiting and I get to stay up with him all night. Anyway my mom and my 16 year old sister who lives at home knows all about his condition and has even seen the ill effects of this and yet they still have been giving him things behind my back and now I am sitting up with the poor thing because he is sick! I don't know how many more ways I can tell them not to do this, they think I'm overly strict but that is not the case! I just don't want him to be sick, what's so wrong with that!?! I've been over this with them so many times, my mom even went to the vet with me all those years ago when he was a puppy and was diagnosed by the vet! I don't want to seem ungrateful because I really appreciate them letting us stay with them for the next few days. How am I ever going to get it through to them that just can't feed him table scraps?
Answer on How can I get my mom and sister to understand this about my dog?
Tell them in a polite way that if they dont stop feeding him table scraps they will have to stay up and clean up after him, because your pregnant and tired and cant do it.
Trust me one night of staying up taking care of a sick dog will definitely make them think twice before feeding him things like that again, also ask them why they would purposely want to make a dog sick when its very preventable?
I agree with another answerer if you cant trust them with just something as simple as not feeding your dog table scraps, then what makes them think you'll trust them with any rules or guidelines you have for your baby.I think that should be another question you should ask them.
Good luck and I hope they'll stop doing this, also congrats on the baby girl:)
